About
Hi and welcome to my blog, My name is Chris McKellar I have just finished my Computer Games Programming degree at the University of Derby. I have a strong passion for programming and computer games from playing them, to creating them or designing them, from a very early age I’ve been brought up on games the earliest console we had was the Commodore 64 with track and field. I still have a lot of my original consoles and games, my favourite console is the sega dreamcast.
From about the age of 15 I started looking at how games were made, I started looking at visual basic programming and made a few applications with it. I began to get more interested in programming and started looking at games programming as a career.
When I have the time I play a wide variety of genres ranging from simple puzzle games to the hardcore first person shooters. My favourite game of all time is Shenmue.
On this blog you will find me posting about things I’ve learnt and current ongoing projects. I will post snippets of code that may be of use and talk about problems I encounter.
I was fortunate enough to take a placement year in industry working at Monumental Games in Nottingham as a game designer working on MotoGP 09/10 for Xbox 360 and PS3. This eye opening experience has taught me a lot not just about developing games but how the the industry works and all the processes involved. Since then I have changed my focus away from games and I am currently getting involved in software projects and looking to further expand my knowledge of C# and other langauges. I will still be working on games probably flash and small indie games but only in my spare time. My focus is on making great software.
